Quarter 3 Projects

Since the education system is moving towards PBL (project based learning), I spend a lot of time trying to develop projects for students to do based on various objectives. I only have two projects for quarter 3 so far. Eventually, I'm hoping to develop more. Feel free to take a look and use them if you'd like! I've already posted one project on my first post, but I'll post it here again.

The first project is called the Carpenter Community Planning Contest.
The goal of this project is to have the students practice various geometry objectives.

The second project is called You Be the Author.
The goal of this project is to have the students write an imaginative narrative and then publish it online using a free story publisher.

Bulletin boards

So I've been thinking a lot about what I'm going to be able to put on this blog with some sort of consistency, and I talked it over with my sister to try to figure out what it is other people might find interesting, helpful, etc. I decided to just rely on my creativity. One thing I pride myself on is my creation of themed bulletin board for outside my door each quarter. Every year, I choose some sort of theme for my hallway bulletin board, and then I tie that theme into my classroom in various ways. For example, this year, my bulletin boards are themed around our social studies curriculum, which is North Carolina geography, history, etc. The first quarter, I made a big map of North Carolina and separated it into the three different regions of North Carolina: mountain, piedmont, coastal. I then put it on a background that looks like the North Carolina flag with the state symbols surrounding it.

The second quarter, I teach about the history of pirates in North Carolina (among other things). I decided to make a pirate-themed bulletin board. I made the pirate in bits and pieces and then taped him together. I made the tree 3D to add a little depth to the board. It's fun to make it 3D, but it's a little bit of a challenge as well.
I haven't quite decided what board I'm going to do for my 3rd quarter yet, but when I do and when I put it up, I'll make sure to put up a picture!

Thanks for reading, y'all! If you have any questions, suggestions about what I can put up here, etc., let me know!! :)

First Post

Alright, I'm attempting to keep a blog of my adventures as a teacher and the things I create/use, etc. in my classroom. Here's my first post. I'll start by posting a project that I created with another teacher friend of mine last year that my kids had a lot of fun working on.
